Lactuca sativa
One of the most popular & healthiest lettuce varieties now available in red! From Caesar salads to sandwiches, this leafy green adds a delicious flavour and crunchy texture to any dish.
Red Romaine Lettuce offers a dependable source of antioxidants thanks to its red pigmentation. The intensity of this red color depends on the type of smart garden lamp used and the growing conditions; it can vary greatly from plant to plant.
Sprouts in: 1 - 2 weeks
Harvest in: 5 - 6 weeks
- Please note that Romaine Lettuce is heat sensitive and grows best at 64 to 72 °F (18 to 22 °C). If the temperature is higher than 75 °F (24 °C) then germination is inhibited.

Romaine Lettuce is a fast-growing plant that will usually sprout in 1 week, but may sometimes take up to 3 weeks.
- Once sprouted, there is no need to thin any seedlings - let them all thrive!
-
It might seem that it is a bit slow to start once it has germinated, but don’t worry, it will accelerate soon.
- You may start harvesting in about 21 days by picking off the larger outer leaves first, moving towards the heart of the plant. Be careful not to cut too low or damage the basal growing point. The plant can then produce more leaves.
- If you prefer to harvest the whole pod in one go, this should be done approximately five to six weeks after planting.
-
Lettuce is an annual plant and has the best nutritional value 25 to 50 days after planting the pod. So, start using Red Romaine Lettuce leaves before it grows old and loses its signature flavour.
-
If Red Romaine Lettuce grows leggy, the temperature might be too high, the lamp could be set up in the wrong way or the plant could be aged.
