Raphanus sativus
Leaf Radish is a fast-growing edible green, that can be used either fresh in salads or slightly cooked in a stir fry or soup. It will add a nice peppery radish flavour to any meal and is a great addition to a homemade pesto.
Radish greens are also a nutritional powerhouse, ranking right up there with broccoli and kale in terms of antioxidants. They're also high in vitamin C and calcium.
Sprouts in: 1 week
Harvest in: 3 - 4 weeks
- Leaf Radish tolerates high temperatures, even up to 30 °C (86 °F), which makes them ideal for every location all year round.
- Radish green tops are fast-growing and should be harvested in two or three weeks after planting.
- As the pod matures, the leaves develop a stronger and more pungent taste every day. If you prefer a somewhat milder taste, harvest the whole pod in one go before it ages, and becomes inedible.
