Prized for their distinctive flavor, chives are invaluable to any garden. Enjoy them in soups, salads, sandwiches or as garnish. Chives have been popular in Europe since the Middle Ages and continue to be used heavily in French, Swedish, and other cuisines. They're mostly used fresh and added at the very end of the cooking process because they lose flavor when heated or cooked for too long.

- Chives are a bit heat sensitive and grow better if the max temperature is 64-79 °F (18-26 °C). At higher temperatures germination and growth may be inhibited.
- For Chives there is no limit to the number of seedlings per pod. Just let them thrive!

You can start harvesting individual leaves already after 1 month from planting the pod.

You can start harvesting single leaves gradually in about a month after planting. Do so by cutting off the whole leaf at full length. Alternatively, you can harvest all Chives at once whenever you like. Usually, they are fully grown in eight weeks and should be harvested all in one go.

Chives pods may last up to 90 days. But if consumed more heavily, it will run out sooner.

After the pod has degraded, feel free to remove the plant from the cavity and plant it outdoors. It will come again next spring even in a hardy climate.
