Green Onion
Allium fistulosum
Green onion (or scallion) is a type of spring onion, where the green top is harvested before the bulbs in the soil have fully developed.
Green onions are the king of garnish, adding a mild and somewhat sweeter flavor to your dish than regular onions. This fast-growing and flavorful green onion is perfect for everyday cooking. Its mild, slightly sweet onion taste enhances your dishes without overpowering them - adding freshness, color, and a pleasant zing.
For the best flavor and vibrant color, add it at the end of cooking or use it fresh as a finishing touch.

- The first leaves may appear thin and fine, but as the plant matures, it will produce fuller and stronger green shoots.
- You can start harvesting single leaves gradually about 1 month after planting. Do so by cutting off the whole leaf at full length.
- If you harvest the whole plant all in one go then make the cut just above the soil level. Leave the pod to regrow and harvest the 2nd growth in a couple of weeks.
- Green onion is also suitable for transplanting outdoors. Once planted in soil, it can return year after year, even in cooler climates.
