Preparing an unsprouted Plant Pod
Sometimes, when seeds don’t sprout, you might notice a little mold on the surface of the soil. Before reusing the soil, remove any visible mold with a paper towel. Also, removing unsprouted seeds using tweezers or small pincers works best.
Once the soil is clean, you have two great ways to reuse it:
1. Plant your own seeds
Here are some general guidelines for how many seeds to plant per pod (unless the seed packet advises otherwise):
- Greens: 3-5 seeds
- Herbs: 15-20 seeds
- Flowers: 3-5 seeds
- Fruiting plants: 1-3 seeds (later thin to leave only 1 growing plant per pod)
2. Transplant seedlings from other pods
This method is especially useful for fruit-bearing plants, where only one plant per pod is recommended (e.g. tomatoes, peppers, wild strawberries). Here’s how:
- Cut the unsprouted pod vertically from the top to about halfway through the soil.
- Carefully remove a seedling from its early growth stage (until 1-2 true leaves appear), minimizing root damage.
- Trim the root tip slightly. If the plant already has true leaves, cut them in half to reduce water loss.
- Place the seedling into the halved soil, ensuring it’s snugly supported, and put it back in the Click & Grow garden, ready to grow.
Your garden will be thriving in no time!
